Getting Started with your Grenadier
There is nothing more exciting than receiving your Grenadier! Although lots of our members have proven that you don't need to modify this vehicle to take it across Australia, the items below will greatly help with the day-to-day experience of your Grenadier.
We are (mostly) not affiliated with these companies, some of these companies are members that's why we like to promote their good ideas. We hope this would help new grenadier owners and with sharing our knowledge and experience, it will help you to set up your Grenadier so you can make the most of it.
Adblue
When you have your Grenadier delivered, the Adblue tank should have been filled up, and you should be good for another 7000Km. If not, don't stress! A lot of fuel stations now sell Adblue at the tank! The cheapest price is around 99c a litre, but it's normal to be paying 2 $ per liter. If you purchase Adblue in a bottle, you can pay up to 20 $ a liter for the same! If you are not sure which fuel stations have Adblue, download the petrolspy app or the Ampol app and select Adblue. It will show you where your closest re-fill station is.
Windscreen
If you have a new and clean windscreen, it might make sense to put some protection on it! have a read on the Member Windscreen Protection page on what options are out there to ensure you will enjoy your windscreen a bit longer!
Roofracks
There are lots of options out there! And we are not going to say which one is "best". All we can say is maybe come to one of the club meets to have a look at the different options and remember that heavier is not always better (we would say the opposite).
Essential quick fixes
Transfer Case Pin Saver
The Design of the Transfer Case lever is such, that it can be removed when needed by removing the pin. In some occassions this pin might come out "unscheduled" Please talk to a club member on the club's solution to keep the pin secure or read more on the Benefits page. (if the transfer case lever gets removed while the car is in "locked" position, please don't drive the Grenadier on hard surfaces)
Diff Breathers
Fitting upgraded or extended differential breathers to an INEOS Grenadier is one of the most effective preventive maintenance modifications you can make for off-roading. While the Grenadier is built tough from the factory, its stock axle venting system presents a few specific mechanical risks.
Solves Known Factory Vent Valve Issues
Eliminates Trapped Pressure: The stock relief valves fitted to the Grenadier differentials are known to stick closed or struggle to release pressure effectively under heavy load. Prevents Pinion & Axle Seal Leaks: As differential oil heats up during highway driving or heavy low-range work, the air inside expands. Trapped pressure forces oil past the pinion seals or axle seals, causing artificial leaks that look like seal failures. Upgraded zero-backpressure breathers relieve this stress.
Long term recommended upgrades
Wolfbox 900 Pro
There is not much to see in the Grenadier rear mirror! adding a wolfbox pro is a good way to improve your vision and making sure you have a recording of what's happening when you drive. This can be of use when you get into a accident or if you are going wheeling with the club and there are some exciting obstacles. The Pro version allows a wifi connection, so you can easily download the movies with your phone or laptop without having to remove the SD card.
There are different mounting options and different ways to route the cable to the rear camera, look on the forum or come to one of our club events to look at some examples. It is reasonable simple to mount this yourself, but you can also ask one of the INEOS service providers to help you.
Brown Davis
Long range fuel tank
Depending on the model of Grenadier (wagon or Quartermaster) we highly recommend adding a long range fuel tank, besides the benefit of having more fuel capacithy it adds
- A new fuel filler with high flow capacity
- filling above the read bash plate, so there is no more dirt, mud or grass coming above the rear bash guard
during installation the rear muffler will be removed, but because their are 2 turbos, there is no difference in sound output! (and also no difference in weight if there is no fuel in the grenadier)
Underbody Protection
As a club we learned the hard way that the grenadier needs a bit of extra protection if you are going to take it on serious 4wd tracks. As with many other cars, the underbody protection out of the factory is sufficient for dirt roads, but some components are not protected. The gearbox of the grenadier is suitable for day to day driving, but it has a weak protection plate and investing in a bash plate is a cheap insurance to protect a very expensive bit of gear!
There are various options available to protect your grenadier with bash guards:
- Custom Offroad do 4mm stainless steel bashplates
- Euro Flo have two different 5mm aluminum plates which are wider and proctect more
- Agile Offroad offer Alumnium sets which can be coated in black, organge or red and are available from our sponsor at the gold coast
GVM upgrades
The standard INEOS Grenadier GVM is 3550, which might not be enough for many of us if we want to fit or have extra accessories or towing a heavier caravan. There are easy ways to increase the grenadier GVM which will come with the added benefit of having a more "stable" grenadier to tow your trailer / caravan (the factory setup is good, but can beneift from a little more stiffness) Most service providers will be able to help you with a GVM upgrade, but if you like to talk to a specialist we would recommend:
