INEOS 4x4 Club Queensland September Newsletter

Can you believe it’s nearly been a year since we officially became an incorporated club? Feels like yesterday we were just kicking things off. In that time, we’ve had some cracking events, ticked off new policies, and voted in our very first proper committee. We’re also closing in on 100 members—which is a massive milestone for any new club in its first year.

Meet the New Committee

Big thanks to Rob for all the hard work he’s put into creating our training program. He’s stepping back a little (life’s busy!) but will still be one of our main trainers. Lewis is now stepping up as Training Officer. We also want to thank Simon for his support on the committee.

To make sure members outside Brisbane get looked after, we now have two regional heads:
•    Adam is looking after Wide Bay–Burnett and all Grenadiers north of the Sunny Coast.
•    Gavin will soon be running NSW. With five NSW members already and interest in starting their own branch, we’ve even set up a NSW-only Jungle profile just for them.

Also, Tom is our new Events Officer—so if you want to plan something, he’s your go-to guy (events@ineos4x4cllubqld.com.au).

You can find the detail of the committee here

What’s New in the Jungle?

We’ve added new features so you can start your own chat groups or message members directly 1:1 to improve our communication. There’s also a bunch of new page ideas in the pipeline. If you’d like to write about your Grenadier—especially how you’ve modified it—let us know at president@ineos4x4clubqld.com.au. These stories really help new owners figure out how to set theirs up.

Club Shop

Merch is here! Sunglasses holders are flying off the shelves, straw hats are back, and we’ll soon be adding member-made gear like 3D-printed parts. Got something you’d like to sell through the shop? Send it our way and we’ll help get it listed in our "made by members" section.

Business Directory & Member Perks

Our directory keeps growing, and it’s open to all Grenadier owners (not just members). Members also get access to some very decent discounts. Check out the benefits page next time you’re logged in.

Heads up—the Unifilter discount code is expiring soon. From our Cape trip experience, the Unifilter pre-filter is a must-have for anyone with a raised intake. The pre-filter was made available because of the efforts of our club, and we have had approval from an Ineos Service engineer that there is no impact to the Grenadier warranty. Many of us are seeing better fuel economy too, so let us know if you experience the same.

How-To Guides

There’s a new “How-To” section under Resources: Rob and Lewis put together a guide on removing and reinserting the transfer case pin. Worth a look if you haven’t already.

National Cape York Trip

What a trip!

Huge thanks to Simon and Helen for leading our adventure so well. We came back with terabytes of footage, plenty of lessons learned (like why locals avoid “shortcuts”), and even more appreciation for how capable the Grenadier is – especially when kitted out with the Euroflo bash plates and a Unifilter! Special thanks to 4Wd Queensland who loaned us a defibrillator and to Expedition HQ who kindly prepared a large box with spare parts.

Videos are up on John Canny’s YouTube who has done a great job capturing the fun we had on the trip:

We learnt a number of important lessons, including :

  • While towing, 27 PSI is too much pressure, 25 PSI is good for corrugations, but driving on bitumen at anything above 75km/h with 24 PSI or less will increase the tyre temperature above 70 degrees
  • When towing, diesel Grenadiers used roughly 2 litres of fuel less for every 100km compared to petrol Grenadiers.
  • Corrugations do require a check of the wheel nuts every day (and the suspension nuts of your trailer).
  • It's better to wait for Frank to ask a friendly mechanic to help, rather than use club power to quickly insert a ½ inch ratchet extension to make up for a missing trailer suspension bolt.  Why you may ask?  Because these are impossible to remove even after 2 hours – and it's costly to get a machine shop in Weipa to remove it!
  • It is best to follow the trip leader through the creeks!
  • Shortcuts might take 1km off the last 15 km bit to the Tip, but it might add 4 hours of recovery lessons!
  • Why locals have been avoiding some shortcuts for the last 2 years as well...

But most importantly, we learnt how capable our Grenadiers are and how much fun it is to look at Grenadiers all day for 2 weeks! I hope you enjoyed the Yowies who visited us on the Cape and cleaned up our cars for us!

Mundi Mundi Bash

INEOS was the main sponsor of the bash and organised a Quartermuster for all Grenadiers in Australia. Mildura is a bit of a drive, but meeting so many likeminded people from New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia made it all worthwhile! We enjoyed a great dinner courtesy of INEOS and got to see the latest Quartermaster with Tommy Camper! (and lots of fuel capacity).

The following morning, we were in a large convoy of Grenadiers enjoying the 4-hour road trip to Broken Hill and the Mundi Mundi Bash. The Mildura detour proved well worth taking as many others had to queue for hours to even get into the bash, but our convoy of Grenadiers, proudly wearing VIP stickers on the windscreen, just drove straight in!

All the Grenadiers camped together directly behind the stage and the music was absolutely next level! We had the Queensland Club gazebo connected to the Victoria Club gazebo and got to know a lot of the Victorian Club members!

Moreton Island

Our first expedition to Moreton Island showed perfect weather, fun tracks and lots of learning! There is even now a new how-to on the website (yes, that transfer case lever pin again!)
