What to expect:
On the day we will meet at the Bakery car park by 9am where we meet and greet with other members and sign in on the trip sheet. Please remember you member number! Once everyone arrives the team will inspect vehicles and the required safety items followed by the driver and safety brief with a quick run over the map before we commence our drive.
The drive is rated as easy to medium difficulty with some exciting steep uphill sections in the middle. With the hills being in decent condition they make for a great introductory section for drivers to play with some of the offroad features of Grenadier such as low range selection and down hill decent control etc. ( if any one wants tuition on a particular aspect of the cars functionality (put into low range etc) this will be a good time to do it).
Once we navigate the hills we make our way down to wind our way over a natural rocky ford towards a spectacular lookout known as Somerset Lookout (usual arrival here is lunch time). If we make it to the lookout late in the afternoon we may stick around to watch the amazing sunset before exiting the park back to the main road just after dark. If the day is still young, we move onto a beautiful small natural waterhole with its own small waterfall. Parking here may be scarce during the school holiday periods though.
All in all we are set for an unrushed day of driving through one of the nicest sub-tropical forests and eucalypt woodlands this close to Brisbane.
Trip Report
At 9 am 14 Grenadiers gathered at the bakery (probably more 8.15, there were a few keen grennies out there) for an exciting day on the trails. After we found a quiet spot Rob went through our trip briefing and Harold outlined the rules for convoy driving. Everyone was keen to get going so the next stop was a 15 minute drive to hit the dirt and air down the tires. Some people went for centre diff lock and some stayed open but high range was common until after an hour we were getting into the more serious stuff! As the trip leader, Rob went up the hill and although the hill looked very impressive, the grenadier made light work of it. There were a few muddy sections and all of the 14 grenadiers came out looking a lot rougher then when they arrived at the bakery.
We had a pleasant stop for morning tea and took our lunch on the site of the track. There was plenty of space to inspect all cars or to put down a chair to enjoy the beautiful forests of d'agualir national park.
25 Psi was the go!
